And, finally, the Proudman younger brother is Jimmy (Richard Davies), whose girlfriend Odile, played by Leah de Niese, is a minor character but intriguing nonetheless. She has already shown us her Swiss, French and British accents and, in a potentially Logie-winning performance on an escalator last week, she even got to bring out a bogan accent.

Sorry for missing the action. News about Leah de Niese is hard to come by. Anyhoy, I saw an entry about the movie Eliminated here:

Melbourne is currently playing home to the shoot of Eliminated, the sophomore feature of Dee McLachlan, who broke onto the scene in 2007 as the writer/director of the hard-hitting sex trade thriller, The Jammed.

Elimated marks a distinct change of pace for the filmmaker, whose award-winning debut drew from actual court transcripts to detail the bleak reality of Melbourne’s dark dealings in human trafficking.

According to its press release, Eliminated will be “a politically incorrect comedy about two of Australia’s major obsessions, terrorism and reality television.”

“Like Masterchef, The Apprentice or Survivor,” explains McLachlan, “our film follows in the true tradition of reality style shows — but with a twist.”

Eliminated reteams McLachlan with two of her stars from The Jammed, Veronica Sywak and Masa Yamaguchi. The pair will be joined by Osamah Sami (Lucky Miles), Richard Cawthorne (Noise), Frieda Mckenna (The Wedge), Leah De Niese (Neighbours), Sachin Joab (My Year Without Sex), Kendal Rae (The Shak) and stage actor and musician, Matt Hetherington.

From the official synopsis: “In Eliminated, a panel of guerilla judges selects and tests an eager and diverse group of young contestants to see who will take out the crown of ‘master terrorist’. Subjected to various challenges, interrogations and torture, the aspiring terrorists adapt and change — and even learn to work together — as they face tormenting and surprising eliminations.”

One of Betty’s outstanding pupils was Leah de Niese who was only 3 years old when she started lessons. At the age of 7, Leah was offered her first professional role in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Leah was selected from thousands of hopefuls and it was Betty who took her to the audition, and stayed with her from early morning until evening. Betty did the same for Leah’s sister Rachel, who appeared in ‘The King and I’ with Hayley Mills at age 10. At 23, Leah is now a veteran performer with film and television credits including a two-year stint on ‘Neighbours’ and a role in ‘Hating Alison Ashley’ with Delta Goodrem.

Chrystal is a shallow, superficial little girl whose aim in life is to look good... a "Crunchie".

With dark hair, dark eyes and an olive complexion, the last role I ever thought I would play is that of a dumb blonde! I was quickly informed, however, that such girls do exist, and they go by the name of “CRUNCHIES”. Like the chocolate bar, they are dark on the outside but blonde on the inside!

And so began the development of ‘Chrystal’. She is obsessed with fashionable clothes and jewellery and all of the attention that goes with it. Her favourite pastime is to say nasty things about others in order to make herself feel better. What is different about Chrystal is that faint streak of innocence and naiveté that suggests she does not fully appreciate the outcome of her actions. In short, Chrystal is as lost and confused as all of the other kids in 9C.

In 2001 I played the complete opposite of Chrystal, in the children’s tv series, “Short Cuts”. In the ‘Short Cuts’ classroom I played class loser, ‘Ruth Hartnell’, who was obsessed with being neat and having everything in perfect order. My most recent role was on an episode of “Stingers” in which I had my tongue cut out! Other credits include ‘Toya’ in the web-based kids series, “Noah & Saskia”, the ever-eventful “Neighbours” in which I played master manipulator, ‘Larissa Callwell’ and “Blue Heelers”, which saw me as rebellious teenager, ‘Kimberley Dyson’.

As a 21-year-old dag, it was loads of fun to play the role of a 15-year-old fashion victim. As an actor of 14 years experience, the role of the ‘crunchie’ is certainly a first and one that shall remain with me forever… I now have an excuse when I use white-out on the computer screen!

Ooodles of thanks to all involved… it was dynamic!

PS. For those of you unfamiliar with UK and Australian confectionary, a "Crunchie" is a chocolate bar with a light honeycomb centre!

As Helena moves closer to her end, PJ is desperate for her to continue living. While he seeks out alternative treatments when she refuses the radio-therapy, Chris, Tom and all his friends try to convince him it is time for his mother to die. Helena just wants him to accept Death. He is conflicted more as she turns to religion, something he doesn't believe in. But she is praying more for him and to help him sort out his life. Meanwhile, Benny Matthews' latest love affair with a 15 year old is not going down well with her father, who demands action be taken. When PJ tells Benny to stop seeing the girl it just makes her angrier and she moves in with him. The Heelers and Kimberley's father are worried Benny will get the girl onto drugs. Helena gives Ben a note to give to PJ when she is dying. It tells him to let her die in peace and not to prolong her life. He continues to seek treatments for her even when she tells him not to. He begins to feel worse after he realises that for a moment he considered excepting Benny's offer of heroin to ease his mother's suffering. But finally PJ and his mother do find a moment to be together and she continues to tell him that it is her time. When Kimberley's father finds out where Benny lives he goes over there and the next thing they know, the Heelers are looking at a potential hostage situation. Benny will only speak to PJ, so he is called away from his mother to solve the problem - which turns out to be nothing more than a cut forehead for the father, who responded badly to Kimberley's announcement that she was pregnant. However, PJ is rushed home when his mother collapses and he is told she will never regain conciousness. Although he wants to prolong her life, he finally gives in to his mother's wishes and must let her go.

Leah de Niese was only three years old when she began lessons at TRY’s Betty Bruce School of Dance in South Yarra. She was soon learning jazz, ballet and tap, memorising songs and routines, and performing solo at shopping centres, competitions and Eisteddfods. By age seven, Leah had been offered her first
professional role, from among thousands of young hopefuls, at an audition for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ that played at the State Theatre over summer during 1991. Now at age 23, Leah is a veteran performer with a string of film and television credits behind her, including a two year stint on ‘Neighbours’ and a role in ‘Hating Alison Ashley’ with Delta Goodrem. ‘I knew from the moment I set foot on that stage, I wanted a theatrical career’, said Leah. ‘If it wasn’t for Betty, it may never have happened.’
It was Betty who took Leah to the audition that day and stayed with her from 9am until 5 that night, when the producer finally announced that Leah had been selected. She did the same for Leah’s sister Rachel, who at 10 years appeared in the ‘King and I’ with Haley Mills. Betty Bruce, a former professional song and dance artist, walked into TRY’s Youth Club in South Yarra almost 50 years ago and volunteered to train children to sing and dance. At the time, TRY ran many Youth Clubs throughout Melbourne, providing education and training for disadvantaged young people in a range of trades appropriate to the times. Betty said she wanted to give poor children an opportunity in life and train them for the stage. By then, she had married and had three children of her own, but her passion and love for the theatre had not diminished. Her skills even extended to making all the costumes for the annual concert each year. It still does today, although now she has swapped her treadle for an electric sewing machine. Over the years, Betty has trained hundreds of thousands of children for competitions, shows and musicals. Many still keep in touch, such as Leah and her sister Rachel, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday and invited Betty to attend.
Throughout most of those years, the Stonnington Council has supported TRY and
Betty’s School of Dance by providing the premises ‘Chapel off Chapel’ and the Prahran Town Hall for the annual concerts, free of charge. Betty’s daughters Annette and Julie now help their mother every Wednesday night. Even Betty’s granddaughters Bianca and Amanda are keen to help out. It seems that TRY’s
Dancing School will continue for some time to come. ‘Once you start, you can’t give up’, said Betty.
